The Family Day weekend has arrived, but if you’re going to be spending any time outdoors, you’ll definitely want to dress in several layers.
Extremely cold weather is expected over the next few days with highs well-below seasonal.
Daily highs are expected to be around minus 11 or minus 12 (and that’s not including the wind chill), while the normal high for this time of year is minus 3 degrees Celsius.
Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold weather alert for northern parts of the province, where wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 50 are expected.
The weather agency advises to watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
It says cover up because frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
And please remember, if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
