Police accidentally shot and killed a 1-year-old boy, during a standoff with his father near Lindsay.
Those are the findings of the Special Investigations Unit.
The incident took place on November 26, when the OPP were called to a domestic dispute in Trent Lakes involving a gun and learned a 33 year old man had allegedly abducted his infant son.
Police ended up in a gunfight with the man and the baby was pronounced dead at the scene, after being found inside his father’s truck suffering from a gunshot wound.
The SIU confirmed yesterday that the child’s death “was the result of being shot by police.”
The child’s father, who the SIU said was also shot by police, later died in hospital.
The SIU hasn’t determined yet whether any officers will be charged.

We continue to offer our deepest sympathies to the family and those affected as we await the final report of the Kawartha Lakes SIU investigation. It is devastating to all #OPP members when an innocent life is lost during an incident.
