As so often is the case, the Super Bowl didn’t come close to matching the hype or the projections of a super contest.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers stomped on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs 31-9.
The much anticipated head-to-head between quarterbacks Tom Brady of Tampa Bay and Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs never materialized.
The old lion, Brady, engineered a precise Buccaneers attack, used all of his running and receiving assets and simply dominated and was named the Most Valuable Player for a 5th time in his career.
Mahomes, missing some key protectors and somewhat on the limp, only made a minimal challenge.
Rob Gronkowski, a long time favorite target for Brady, hauled in 2 touchdown catches.
By comparison, the normally reliable Travis Kelce dropped catchable balls for KC.
Veteran Antonio Brown also had a TD reception in the victory
Again by comparison, Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman were non factors in the loss.
And finally, you cannot underestimate the composure displayed by the Bucs contrasted to the out of control blown gaskets and stupid penalties that haunted Kansas City all night.
It’s notable the bookies, who know their football, have made Kansas City the early favorite to win the 2022 Super Bowl.
But for the moment, that projection is of no consequence to the reality that Tampa Bay has a 2nd Super Bowl Championship and Tom Brady has a 7th Super Bowl ring.
For Pete’s Auto Body, I’m Fred Wallace
