Owen Sound Police police followed two different kinds of tracks this weekend that led them to two separate arrests.
Police say just before 9 Saturday night, officers spotted an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on 10th Street East being driven contrary to city by-laws. Police say they attempted to stop the diver and passenger to investigate, but say the suspect made a ‘dangerous manoeuvre’ and sped north along the 1000 block of 1st Avenue East which is a designated south bound road.
Police say they were able to follow the ATV’s tire tracks in the snow to an address on 3rd Avenue East where the suspect surrendered.
They say their investigation determined he was a prohibited driver. According to police, breath samples showed he had consumed more than two times the legal alcohol limit. He is charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and operation over 80. He will appear in court on March 4th.
Then, early Sunday morning, police responded to an alarm just after 3 a.m. at an east side retail store. They say someone had forced open an exterior door, and when officers went inside, they found the suspect was gone, but had left footprints in the fresh snow.
Officers followed the footprints and located the suspect at another east side business which he was prohibited from being at due to outstanding break and enter charges. They say he had bolt cutters in his possession.
He was arrested and faces charges related to break and enter, theft, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of bail conditions.
