The inspectors are coming!
Provincial inspectors are expected to be in Simcoe County and Muskoka over the next few days, as part of a workplace inspection blitz in the region.
The inspectors will be visiting big-box stores, grocery stores, service stations, hotels, as well as warehousing and manufacturing businesses all weekend long to make sure they are complying with COVID-19 safety requirements under the Reopening Ontario Act.
The local inspections are part of an Ontario-wide campaign to check for compliance.
According to the province, the most common areas of non-compliance include failure to properly screen staff and patrons, improper social distancing, and workplaces not having adequate COVID-19 workplace safety plans.
The fines for failing to comply with the orders under the Reopening Ontario Act and the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act are $1,000 for corporations and $750 for individuals, including customers and employees. If convicted, fines could reach as high as $100,000 for individuals, plus one year in prison.

To date, inspectors have visited more than 1,000 stores as part of our government's Big Box Blitz in January. The results show that businesses need to step up & do better to keep customers & workers safe.
