Two people have been arrested, after police investigated a possible impaired driver in Penetanguishene.
Police say an officer on patrol followed the vehicle into the parking lot of the local mall early last Thursday, and a search resulted in the seizure of a bottle of partially consumed liquor and a quantity of marijuana.
As a result, the OPP say the vehicle driver Matthew Greg Trott, 40 years of Midland, has been charged with the following offences.
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada - Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Contrary to the Liquor Licence Act - Drive – hand-held communication device
Contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act - Individual – fail to comply with an order made during a declared emergency
Contrary to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act
The accused was released from police custody on a undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on February 11, 2021.
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days and the accused’s driver’s licence has been further suspended for 90 days under the conditions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) .
The 20 year old female passenger of Midland was also charged with – Individual – fail to comply with an order made during a declared emergency contrary to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
