Orillia OPP has made an arrest in an attempted bank fraud in the City.
Police say shortly before noon on Thursday, they were called to a local bank where someone was trying to open an account with fake identification.
Officers arrived and located the suspect who identified himself with, what was determined to be, a false name.
He was subsequently arrested and after determining the suspect’s true identity, officers also learned that he was in contravention of numerous conditions.
As a result, Joseph Babatund Okunola, age 47, from North York, has been charged with:
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Counterfeiting stamps – use
- Four counts of Use, deals, acts on forged document
- Four counts of possession of a credit card
- Use of credit card
- Fraud under $5000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Four counts of possess – credit card data
- Possession of an identity document
- Six counts of failure to comply with release order
- Seven counts of fail to comply with probation order
The accused has been held for a bail hearing and is set to appear on January 29, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
