A 40-year-old man is facing a list of charges, following a traffic stop in Penetanguishene.
Just after midnight this morning, police say a vehicle was stopped on Main Street and the officer suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Police say the driver was arrested after failing a roadside screening test and further investigation revealed he was banned from driving in Canada, while a search of the vehicle turned up alcohol and cannabis.
As a result of the investigation, Matthew Trott, 40 years of Midland, Ontario was charged with the following offences:
- Operation Over 80 milligrams contrary to the Criminal Code
- Driving while Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession of Over 30 grams of Dried Cannabis contrary to the Cannabis Act
- Fail to Comply with an Order made during a Declared Emergency contrary to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act
- Drive Handheld Communication Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Alcohol contrary to the Liquor License Act
The vehicle belonging to the accused was towed to be impounded for seven days. He was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on February 11, 2021.
