The Avon Maitland District School Board is hoping for a mid-February start of in-person classes.
In an update to families, the school board says they have had “some indication that the next potential return date to face to face learning could be Thursday, February 11.”
“However, this has not been confirmed and we have asked the Ministry of Education to provide an update as soon as possible so that families can be better prepared.”
Students in Huron and Perth counties have been out of the classroom since the start of Christmas holidays, with no confirmation of a return date from the Ministry of Education.
Meantime, the Education Ministry is mandating a number of increased safety measures for the return of in-person classes, including:
- New masking requirements for students in Grades 1 – 3 and new requirements to wear masks outdoors when a physical distance of 2m cannot be maintained.
- Enhanced screening protocols (confirmation of self-screening for all secondary students prior to or upon arrival to school).
- Increased enforcement to avoid congregating of students before and after school.
- Targeted testing for eligible schools.
- Mandatory refresher training for all students on their first day back to school.
