Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
The story is about a week old now, but it’s a good one from a sports and academic standpoint.
Taylor Chegahno from Purple Valley recently made a verbal commitment to attend St Bonaventure University in New York State and play for the Women’s Field Lacrosse team.
Chegahno who is currently in Grade 11 at Peninsula Shores District School in Wiarton, will be chasing both athletic and academic endeavours.
From a schooling standpoint, Chegahno will be studying Health Sciences and notes the graduation rate for St Bonaventure is very high.
From a lacrosse standpoint, playing for the Lady Bonnies will be the latest step in a series of progression in the sport for Chegahno.
To begin with, Taylor Chegahno competed for the Owen Sound Lady NorthStars program and says both coaching and encouragement from Lyndsay Brooks & Stacey Goldie motivated her to the highest degree.
That motivation, along with her natural skills and drive, allowed Chegahno to also gain a spot on the provincial squad.
Playing for Team Ontario exposed Chegahno to another level of coaching along with a higher level of competition and at some point she realized she could take her field lacrosse, or field lacrosse could take her, to an American post secondary school opportunity, something she’s dreamt of at length.
Taylor Chegahno still has to get through a year and a bit of high school in Wiarton, plus we also have to see the end of the pandemic, but the path from Purple Valley to St Bonaventure has been laid out for Taylor Chegahno.
I’m Fred Wallace
