The City of Barrie has announced the members of its Anti-racism Task Force.
Seven individuals have been chosen to work actively with police services, school boards, community groups, municipal organizations, social services, business, labour and government agencies in order to facilitate a stronger understanding of the needs of the City’s racialized populations.
More than 30 applications were received from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds and experiences.
An independent panel of individuals, who are actively engaged in cultural and anti-racism efforts from outside of our community met to review the applications and determine the final composition of the task force. The seven individuals chosen by this panel are active in the community and eager to contribute to these efforts.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome these seven individuals and look forward to the work of this task force,” said Mayor Jeff Lehman. “The work they will do over the coming two years will help our community as it grows and guide our efforts to support anti-racism efforts in our City.”
The next meeting of the task force will be held in January 2021 to select a Chair and discuss pressing issues in our community, as well as look to the work ahead.
