The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is expected to arrive in the province today, with immunizations to begin within the next 48-72 hours.
That’s according to Retired General Rick Hillier, who is leading Ontario’s vaccine distribution task force.
He said yesterday that roughly 50,000 doses are set to be delivered to four sites, then redistributed to long-term care and retirement homes.
Hillier also acknowledged that, in hindsight, pausing COVID-19 vaccinations over the holidays “was the wrong decision.”
He said more than 14,000 people had been vaccinated in the province so far and if all goes according to plan, 8.5 million people in Ontario will be vaccinated by the end of July.
In their latest report yesterday, Ontario health officials announced nearly 4,500 new cases of COVID-19 over two days and a total of 78 new deaths related to the virus.
