OHL on Hold
The Ontario Hockey League officially announced the delay to the start of the upcoming season.
Training camps had been scheduled to begin in mid-January, with regular season games scheduled to commence on February 4th
The OHL decision follows Premier Ford’s announcement of a province-wide shutdown in Ontario commencing on Boxing Day.
The League will continue to consult with government and health authorities to determine potential start dates.
NHL Notes
The National Hockey League released the schedule for the upcoming season.
The schedule features the Montreal Canadiens taking on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks playing Edmonton Oilers on opening night.
Five Canadian provincial health authorities with jurisdiction over National Hockey League games presented the league with two options to start the season with each Canadian team playing out of its own arena.
The first option called for a regular testing schedule for players, staff, coaches and close contacts among other requests.
The second option called for the NHL to operate in a bubble form similar to what transpired in Toronto and Edmonton last Summer for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov is expected to miss the entire regular season because of a hip injury that requires surgery.
Kucherov played through a groin injury in the playoffs on the way to helping the Lightning win the Stanley Cup.
Last year, Kucherov put up 34 points as the Lightning won the NHL Championship
