Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
Merry Christmas.
I know, I know, it hasn’t been the best of times, certainly not this week.
In the past few days, the province announced a Lockdown, my Leon’s broadcasts were cancelled, the CFOS transmitter got fried, Claire didn’t bring me chocolate milk, I touched Pepsi on the vending machine and it spit out Diet Pepsi, plus the corporate wizards at Bell sent me a cell phone agreement………..in French.
But it’s still Christmas, isn’t it ?
Every day it seems there’s a nice Christmas Card greeting either here at Bayshore Broadcasting or in my mailbox at home. Some from family. Some from new friends. Some from friends I’ve known since the 1960s.
I’m not about to promote the pandemic, but COVID-19 has reduced my level of normal activity and pushed me into other avenues, like perpetual suduko,,,,,, or Facebook where almost daily I see a posting from a familiar name either in contemporary terms or from long ago. I was never a big Facebook guy, but I’ll admit there’s comfort in a lot of what I see.
And Sandy has a Bernese Mountain Dog, ” Hank “. Every morning, somewhat groggily, Hank walks me to the door looking for one more belly rub or a final scratch of the ears. At the end of the day, he greets me with the same level of enthusiasm that Dino used to greet Fred Flintstone.
Do I miss NorthStar Lacrosse, OASA Fastball, Hanover Raceway, Cross Country meets, the Owen Sound Attack & the Knights of Meaford ?….Of course I do.
Are Christmas Cards, Facebook & my new best friend, Hank, suitable replacements ? Almost.
And is it too much, too greedy on my part at this time of the year, to make a Christmas wish to have it all ?
Well, that is my Christmas wish today, along with a hearty best wishes for Christmas to all of you.
I’m Fred Wallace
