With residents continuing to feel the financial hardships and challenges brought on by COVID-19, Springwater Council has approved the 2021 budget with a zero percent property tax increase.
When combined with the County of Simcoe approved budget with a zero percent increase and the education rate which is expected to remain neutral, residents will not see a tax rate increase on their 2021 tax bill.
The 2021 budget includes expenditures of $44.4 million, which can be broken down into $21.3 million in operating expenses, $18.6 million in capital expenditures, $2.8 million for water operations and $1.7 million for wastewater operations.
This year has brought unprecedented challenges for residents and businesses as many struggle to deal with the impacts of COVID-19. By approving a zero percent tax increase, Council is providing relief to property owners’ and allowing them to better weather these uncertain times.
The 2021 budget includes an investment of $2.6 million for Springwater Fire Station 2, which will be built at the corner of Bayfield Street N and Snow Valley Road as part of the new community hub. Springwater residents will also see road, traffic and other infrastructure improvements. This is in addition to the continued services residents expect, including fire & emergency services, winter road maintenance, libraries, and by-law enforcement.
