There is another Covid related death in our region today.
This is the second death reported since Friday.
The two latest deaths are a woman 65-79 at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland and a man in his 80’s at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston.
At the Midland hospital, there are 21 staff and six patients who have tested positive for coronavirus. An outbreak has been declared.
There was a third death since Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Charles Gardner, gave his last live update on December 8th. A man, 35 to 44, died at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare.
The total number of new cases in Simcoe/Muskoka today is 44.
There are 13 in Barrie, two in Clearview, four in Midland, two in Orillia, three in New Tecumseth, two in Oro-Medonte, one in Penetanguishene and one in Tiny.
There is a new case in Gravenhurst, a woman 18 to 34 whose case is part of an institutional outbreak.
Huntsville also has a new case today.
Dr. Gardner reports there is an outbreak at Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene. One staff and two inmates in one unit have tested positive for Covid-19.
An outbreak was declared at Trillium Manor long-term care home in Orillia with one staff member with Covid.
An outbreak was declared at Raglan Village in Collingwood on December 12 with one resident testing positive.
The health unit reports that a hospice facility in Simcoe County has one staff member with the virus.
Dr. Charles Gardner says he is excited about the Covid-19 vaccine. He says Simcoe/Muskoka could see some doses as early as next week.
He says they will go to healthcare workers at long-term care homes and retirement homes as well as at group homes.
