The annual Light The Way Radiothon on Bayshore Broadcasting’s 98 The Beach was a big success.
As of 6 p.m. Thursday, over $177,000 was raised to go towards the purchase of a new $510,000 x-ray machine for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton.
The current machine is 15 years old, is in service 24 hours a day, seven days a week and sees 11,000 patients each year.
Hospital Foundation Executive Director Tracy Murray says in a statement, “Since the government does not fund the purchase of medical equipment for the hospital we rely on support from our community to ensure the hospital can stay up to date and continue to provide high quality care for all of our residents and visitors.”
The Foundation notes, 2020 has been a challenge for charities that have cancelled their fundraising events during the pandemic, which makes the direct mail letter for Light the Way that much more important this year.
98 The Beach Morning Host Brian Longmire says he feels, “Blessed to be part of such a great event,” Noting, “After 12 hours on the air for the radiothon today broke all records raising over $177000 for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation. Thank you all!!”
