Georgian Bay Forever is hoping you’ll want to help it protect our waters.
The environmental charity is looking for homes to receive free washing machine filters
to help stop microplastics from getting into Georgian Bay.
The group says it has about 60 volunteer households, and they are looking for 240 more in Collingwood, if the homes meet the qualifications.
Georgian Bay Forever says thousands and thousands of microplastics get released from your clothes in just one wash – and wastewater treatment plants just can’t get them all so they end up in our water.
The group says these filters, in washing machines, can stop up to 89% of microplastics before they even get to the wastewater treatment plant.
To be part of the program in Collingwood, please email brooke.harrison@gbf.org to see if you qualify for a filter on your washing machine.
