The Province will be working with both the public and private sectors to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine when it arrives.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says government officials know they can’t do it alone.
“We need the help of businesses and people with the necessary expertise in logistics, technology, patient care and pharmaceuticals,” she said.
Elliott says these factions will help with the storage, distribution, transportation, administration, tracking and monitoring of the vaccine and pharmaceuticals.
Companies already helping out with the plan include Purolator, Shoppers Drug Mart and McKesson.
Elliott says the vaccines will be delivered where they are needed when they are ready, as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
She added that it’s fair to say Ontario’s most vulnerable residents and frontline healthcare providers will likely receive the vaccine first, but that determination will ultimately be up to bioethicists on the rollout team.
We’re working closely with experts in logistics, technology, patient care, pharmaceuticals and business to make sure we can get the COVID-19 vaccine into communities across Ontario. As General Hillier said, we’ll be ready by December 31st.
