Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
With the NBA still a month away, hockey somewhere on the foggy horizon and Major League Baseball proclaiming they’ll operate as normal come February, it means we’re currently trapped in a new world order for sports.
Truthfully, my understanding of the UFC, ATP Tennis, and pro golf has improved exponentially.
And the same can also be said for Major League Soccer.
From 1993 to March of 2020, I’d be hard pressed to name an MLS franchise or recall broadcasting a result other than one that involved Toronto FC, Montreal or Vancouver.
But with a void in the traditional BIG Four of North American team sports, the MLS has been given centre stage on many occasions.
Like tonight;
There are 3 MLS Playoff games including Toronto FC hosting Nashville.
Of course the game isn’t in Toronto but rather in East Hartford, Connecticut, but that’s of little consequence.
For TFC who were in contention for the Supporters’ Shield up to Decision Day, this represents the start of a journey that they hope will allow them to reach the final for the 4th time in the last 5 years.
Toronto has a fleet of prominent players ( even to the casual fan ); Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore and Jonathan Osorio, so they are the favorite to bump Nashville tonight
However, the Nashville side defends well and in their elimination game against Miami, a convincing 3-nil victory, they attacked with purpose
The betting odds tonight have TFC at + 120 and Nashville coming in as the underdog at + 220
Also tonight, the Philadelphia Union host the New England Revolution while the Seattle Sounders go against LAFC.
Without the NFL, the NHL, the NBA, UFC, Tennis or Golf, it’s a full night of MLS Soccer for the sports fan.
I’m Fred Wallace
