A shoplifting complaint in Orillia has led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
Police were called to a business on Murphy Road yesterday, where two men had allegedly stolen numerous items and fled in a grey Audi SUV.
Officers quickly located the vehicle and took its occupants into custody.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen and had fraudulent license plates attached to it.
As a result, Ali Mehraein, age 42, of Toronto, and Shahriar Noorpour, age 32, of Vaughan, have been charged with:
- Theft under $5000, contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code
- Resist Peace Officer, contrary to Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Use, deals, acts on forged document, contrary to Section 368(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Fail to comply with undertaking, contrary to Section 145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code
In addition, Mr. Mehraein has also been charged with:
· Two counts of failure to comply with release order, contrary to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code
· Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
· Escape lawful custody, contrary to Section 145(1) of the Criminal Code
Both accused parties were held in custody for a bail hearing and are set to appear in court today.
