Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
The Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame announced their newest inductees recently.
Similar to Owen Sound and to Midland, and likely many other similar sports halls and celebrations, the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame has inductees but no specific date for a formal induction.
The list of inductees for Collingwood’s next Induction Night includes 1 athlete, 3 builders and 3 teams.
The athlete is Alpine skier David Christie who was the Ontario Junior Champion in 1953 and also was prominent as a founding member of the Blue Mountain cum Collingwood Ski Club.
The 3 teams to be inducted are as follows;
– The 1968-69 Collingwood Bantam Legionnaires Hockey team who had an incredible 72-1 & 1 record on their way to Silver Stick and OMHA titles.
– The 2006 Smokum Too Yacht Racing team, the first, and ONLY, Canadian entry to won the Chicago-Makinac Trophy
– and the 2014-15 Collingwood Blackhawks Atom Hockey team who won both the OMHA and International Silver Stick titles in a 51 win season.
Finally, the 3 builders to be inducted are Patty Federer for Special Olympics and Paralympic Skiing and Golf, plus Bill Redick and Fern St Onge who were prominent names in Collingwood’s hockey history.
Again, no formal date for induction but certainly significant names at some point to be inducted into the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame.
I’m Fred Wallace
