Perfetti Signs
The Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League signed 2020 first-round pick Cole Perfetti to a 3-year, entry-level contract.
Perfetti was selected 10th overall in the NHL Entry Draft
Last year, Perfetti posted 37 goals and 111 points for the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League.
Swerve In Shelburne For OJSL
The Ontario Junior Super League was among the topics of discussion last night at Shelburne Council.
The OJSL has a Media Day this weekend and were slotted to conduct all of their league games using Shelburne as the hub location.
Council made a resolution that the Centre Dufferin Rec Complex board reconsider hosting OJSL games.
And if the board does proceed with hosting OJSL games, council laid out a series of requests, including providing details of where the teams were all coming from, and if those locations of origin are in COVID-19 hot spots.
MLS Post Season
The Audi MLS Cup playoffs will commence November 21st with 2 ” Play-In ” games
The Montreal Impact will meet the New England Revolution, while Nashville goes against Miami
Toronto FC, the # 2 seed will play the higher-seeded play-in winner,
The MLS Cup final goes December 12.
NBA Deal
The National Basketball Association and the players’ union reached an agreement in principle on the start of the 2020-21 season, as well as an amended collective bargaining agreement.
The deal calls for free agency to begin November 20th, two days after next week’s NBA draft.
As was agreed to last week, the 72 game regular season will begin December 22nd
OSAC Get Up & Race
The Owen Sound Aquatic Club is committed to offering “Get up and Race” opportunities for swimmers across all groups and have a McDonald’s Mini-meet November 19th-21st.
The OSAC is working to develop monthly opportunities for athletes to test themselves, guage their progress, compete against teammates and possibly regional rivals.
MLB Rookies of the Year
Kyle Lewis of the Seattle Mariners won the American League Rookie of the Year award.
Lewis received all 30 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
Milwaukee Brewers reliever Devin Williams took home the National League honour.
Williams who did not have a save or a win this season, allowed 1 earned run in 22 appearances.
LaRussa DUI
Chicago White Sox Manager Tony La Russa has been charged with driving under the influence
The arrest occurred in February, but the case wasn’t filed until the day before La Russa’s hiring was announced by the White Sox.
The White Sox say they were aware of the arrest when the 76-year-old La Russa was hired.
La Russa pleaded guilty to driving under the influence previously in Florida in 2007 after police found him asleep inside his running sport utility vehicle at a stop light and smelling of alcohol.
Nunes Withdraws
UFC champion Amanda Nunes has withdrawn from her featherweight title defense against Megan Anderson next month for undisclosed reasons.
Nunes (20 & 4) was scheduled to defend her 145-pound title against Anderson (10 & 4) in the main event of UFC 256 on December 12th in Las Vegas.
The UFC has not officially announced the cancellation of the bout or a new main event.
