Chase Elliott won his first NASCAR Cup Series title
Elliott’s car failed pre-race inspection and the penalty cost him the pole when he was sent to the rear.
He drove from the back of the field to victory lane to win for Hendrick and Chevrolet, which had been shut out of the title race since Jimmy Johnson won in 2016.
Elliott became the third-youngest Cup Series champion in NASCAR history.

OLA U22 Proposals Denied
A proposal to make Junior Lacrosse in Ontario an Under 22 league was defeated at the OLA Annual General Meeting on the weekend.
The one year pilot project was defeated as 51 % of those voting opposed the initiative.
Meanwhile, the initial proposal to make Junior Lacrosse Under 22 as an age bracket for the long term was approved by 52 % but needed to get 75 % in order to be passed.
Howie Meeker Passes
Prominent Canadian hockey personality Howie Meeker has died.
Meeker won the Calder Trophy as the top rookie in 1947 & won 4 Stanley Cups in 8 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Most famously, he passed the puck to Bill Barilko for the 1951 Cup overtime winner against Montreal.
