Saugeen Shores Police have launched an investigation into a hate-motivated graffiti incident.
Town Police say at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday they received a report that an unknown person or people spray painted “racially motivated text and homophobic slurs” on structures at a location in Saugeen Shores.
Police have not identified where exactly this happened.
Saugeen Shores Police say they work closely with the local Crown Attorney to ensure they respond effectively when receiving complaints about activities that may constitute a hate motivated offence, and these crimes will not be tolerated.
“Hate crime and hate motivated crime have a harmful impact on the community,” say Saugeen Shores Police in a release. “It causes emotional trauma to the identified groups that are victimized by hate crime, and it results in serious friction between different groups in our society.”
Anyone with information to help identify those responsible are asked to contact Saugeen Shores Police or Crime Stoppers.
