The Province is acting on a key recommendation from Ontario’s Long Term Care Covid-19 Commission which was struck during the first wave of the pandemic.
Premier Doug Ford says it will mean hiring tens of thousands of support staff and increase the average amount of daily direct care for LTC residents to four hours per day from 2.5 hrs.
“We know such an important change will take time, to recruit and train the necessary staff but we start that work in earnest right now,” said Ford.
Minister of Long Term Care Dr. Merrilee Fullerton says hard targets will be set and the Province will provide regular updates on the improvements.
Ford says during the first wave he promised to fix the broken LTC system.
Improving the quality of life and care for #LongTermCare residents is at the centre of everything we do.
