Today is the day Collingwood residents have been waiting for, when the results of the Judicial Inquiry are released.
The Judicial Inquiry was requested by the Town of Collingwood, by Resolution 042-2018, to investigate the 50% share sale of Collingwood Utility Services Corporation to PowerStream Inc. in 2012.
The Inquiry’s mandate examines the sequence of events leading to the sale transaction, the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, fees and benefits paid to anyone associated with the sale and the contracts entered into among the parties; the allocations of proceeds of the transaction of recreational facilities at Central Park Area and Heritage Park and any fees or benefits paid to a person or entity involved in the creation of the recreational facilities; and the overall impact of these events on the Town of Collingwood.
Judicial inquiries allow governments to examine issues outside the regular legislative process, to help communities benefit from independent, neutral consideration of matters in the public domain, and to help develop public policy and make recommendations that will serve the public in the future.
The Town looks forward to continuing active work on being an accountable and transparent municipality and to a thorough review of the Inquiry’s report recommendations.
