The Simcoe Muskoka District Health unit says 43 of the 281 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the region since Thanksgiving weekend can be attributed to 21 separate family gatherings, which broke the province’s social gathering rules due to the pandemic.
Dr. Charles Gardner, the health unit’s medical officer, says the gatherings consisted of members from the same household along with visiting extended family members, which resulted in between one and five cases per cluster.
The doctor also suggested that people should only stick to their households for festive gatherings.
As of Oct 26th, we have had an additional 281 cases in #SimcoeMuskoka since Thanksgiving weekend. 43 (15%) of those cases are related to 21 separate Thanksgiving gatherings and include children and seniors.
