The Federal Government has announced further investments in vaccine initiatives.
Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $214 million for made-in-Canada vaccines.
“To begin with, our government is providing up to $173 million for Medicago to advance their vaccine candidate and create a production facility in Quebec City,” said Trudeau.
The Federal government plans to secure 76 million doses of this vaccine.
Trudeau says today’s announcement is about supporting potential vaccines for Canadians and investing in research and jobs.
A further $18.2 million will be invested in Precision Nanosystems’ vaccine candidate.
Another $23 million is for earlier-stage vaccine candidates across the country.
Trudeau says he doesn’t think people should expect a vaccine to be ready by the end of the year or the beginning of 2021, but he expects it will come in the new year.
He says nothing will be distributed in Canada until Health Canada approves them.
