Owen Sound city council has decided against further consideration of the potential sale of parkland in the city’s northeast end.
Council resolved at its meeting Monday to not proceed with the remaining steps identified in the Recreation, Parks and Facilities Master Plan, ending the process to consider the sale of a half-hectare portion of parkland within Stoney Orchard and Timber McArthur Parks to a developer.
The property is located north of 23rd Street East, near Saint-Dominque-Savio School.
Barry’s Construction made a request to the city about the acquisition in 2019 as it looks to complete a subdivision build-out.
According to a report by the city’s Director of Community Services Pam Coulter, many individuals made written submissions concerning the potential park sale and two petitions were submitted opposing it.
