Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire “.
Believe it or not, there’s bubbling in the pot of Ontario Lacrosse as we sit in what you’d think would be No Man’s land.
There was no Minor, Junior B or Senior Series Lacrosse in Owen Sound in 2020, so it’s been more than a year since a meaningful game was played.
And while optimistically hoping for the best, the opening faceoff for the next season is still half a year away.
Still, there’s a significant vote ahead in Junior B Lacrosse expected within a month that we’ll discuss a little closer to the date.
And also of note, I received a neat update from the Owen Sound Lacrosse Endowed Fund as of December 31st, 2019.
The bottom line, through donations, contributions and assorted fundraisers, the Lacrosse fund which is under the umbrella of Community Foundation Grey Bruce had a balance in excess of $ 50,000.
The revenue and interest generated by that balance is distributed back to lacrosse activities in the city, lowering registration costs as a primary example of how the fund assists.
The neat thing is, the current balance will never be lower and will exist in perpetuity, spitting out interest for lacrosse purposes on an annual basis.
The more the principal grows through contributions and donations, the more interest it should generate, and thus, more money conceivably will be available year after year after year….
For information on the Lacrosse Endowed Fund, check with Community Foundation Grey Bruce.
And if lacrosse isn’t for you, keep in mind a fund can be established for whatever your tastes and interests are. Maybe sports. Maybe culture. Maybe academics. Maybe……..whatever.
The possibilities are almost endless and so too is the principal in place no matter what fund we’re talking about.
I’m Fred Wallace
