As part of an overall message about small business, Premier Doug Ford has a request for big third-party delivery companies like Uber Eats.
He wants them to reduce their commission rates, which in some cases are as high as 30 per cent, in order to help restaurants in hotspots impacted by the most recent pandemic regulations.
Despite indoor dining being shut down in these areas now, patios, takeout and delivery options remain open.
“Please consider reducing the commission rates you charge the restaurants impacted by these new health measures,” said Ford. “We can’t have restaurants paying as much as 30 per cent commission to have their food delivered right now. And I’m told that in some cases, that’s on top of the service fees and delivery fees paid by consumers.”
Ford also called upon all Ontarians to rally around small area businesses by shopping local, ordering takeout and buying Ontario made.
Ford says let’s come through for the small businesses.
