The regional unemployment rate in the area that includes Bruce, Grey, Huron and Perth counties fell to 7.9 per cent in September.
The Four County Labour Market Planning Board says more than 2,400 full-time positions were created in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula economic region last month, as well as 1,400 part-time jobs.
The greatest job gains came in the wholesale/retail trade (+1,900), utilities (+700), manufacturing (+700) and professional, scientific and technical services (+600) sectors.
Those job gains were offset partly by losses in the educational services and finance, insurance and real estate industries.
“Based on these seasonally unadjusted data it appears we are in recovery mode which is good news for the economic region,” says Four County Labour Market Planning Board Executive Director Gemma Mendez-Smith. “We will definitely be keeping a keen eye on these numbers to determine the extent of our region’s economy, over the next few months.”
Nationally, the unemployment rate ticked down to nine per cent as 378,000 new jobs were created across Canada in September.
