Hi, this is Fred Wallace with ” Off the Wire. ”
How about some nice notes to head into the long Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend ?
This popped up last week, but it’s worth mentioning again; the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers recognized two long-standing volunteers from the Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce program.
The Civilian Achievement Award was awarded to Betty Egerdeen while the Community Service Award was awarded to Evan Hayter, both of whom are residents of Southampton.
Betty, described as a dynamo for her years of service with Crimestoppers, seemingly was at every fall fair, flea market, council meeting, information session and community event for almost 2 decades.
I’d see her once a year at the annual Crimestoppers Golf Tournament where she stood on the course as a volunteer or kept order in the clubhouse afterwards.
And to that end, Evan was saluted for his conceptual idea and dedication to the annual charity golf tournament which ran for more than a quarter of a century and only was halted by a global pandemic.
The CrimeStoppers Tournament will be back in 2021, especially now that courses have found a format to conduct their events.
For example, the annual Swing Your Stix for Charity Tournament at Legacy Ridge a month ago.
The organizers sent me a breakdown of their distribution of funds, and without going into dollar-for-dollar details, I’m confident in saying Grey Bruce Paraplegic, REACH, GRACE, the Community Foundation & Chapman House are all extremely grateful for the financial assistance from the tournament which is approaching the 3 decade mark.
Happy Thanksgiving.
I’m Fred Wallace
