Huron Perth Public Health is recommending residents start new traditions for Thanksgiving and Halloween, as the old ones become upended by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In recent weeks, the province has limited gatherings for private events to 10 people indoors, and 25 people outdoors.
HPPH suggests call or video chats with family and friends, in place of in-person meetings, as well as family walks and contactless delivery of gifts or treats.
For trick-or-treaters, HPPH recommends to avoid busy areas or indoor spaces like malls, as social distancing may be difficult.
Anyone handing out treats is asked by health officials to consider being outside more than inside, and to find ways of creating distance while handing out goodies.
Because of the easy transmission of COVID-19, health official suggest creating new Halloween traditions within household bubbles.
These can include cooking or baking, spending time outdoors, or finding ways to help others in the community.
