New Huntsville Hwy 60 EV fast chargers power fall-colour trips to Algonquin Park

A fall-colour drive to Algonquin Park just became easier for electric vehicle drivers. Lakeland EV Charging, in partnership with the District of Muskoka and with funding support from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and MTO ChargeON, has opened a new public fast-charging station at 330 Highway 60 in Huntsville.

Located directly on the Highway 60 route between Huntsville and Algonquin Park, just east of downtown Huntsville, the charging station is on the District of Muskoka’s water treatment plant property near Fairyview Drive making it the perfect place to recharge. The nearby Fairy Vista Trail gives travellers a place to stretch their legs or walk the dog, while the iconic Kawartha Dairy log cabin ice-cream store is a 1.5 km walk away.

The site includes four 240 kW fast-charging ports: two with CCS connectors and two with NACS connectors. It is one of the first Lakeland EV Charging sites to offer both connector types, making charging easier for a wider range of vehicles. The station is also Lakeland EV Charging’s first installation using fast-charging equipment from TEAL, a Canadian company based in Saskatchewan.

The project builds on a partnership formed in 2024, after a competitive procurement process, between Lakeland EV Charging and the District of Muskoka. The District is providing the Highway 60 site at no cost under a long-term lease. Funding was provided in part through Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), and Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s ChargeON.
“Fall is one of the best times to experience Muskoka and Algonquin Park, and this station gives EV drivers a convenient new place to recharge along the way,” said Peter Ewald, Director of Lakeland EV Charging. “It’s easy to find and close to places where people can enjoy a walk or a local treat while they charge. It’s exactly the kind of practical, welcoming stop we want our network to offer.”

“This partnership helps make EV travel more accessible for residents and visitors while supporting Muskoka’s tourism economy,” said Lauren Saville, Community Climate Initiatives Coordinator with the District of Muskoka. “By making District property available for the station, we are helping add dependable charging on an important route through our region and toward Algonquin Park.”
By expanding charging infrastructure, we are giving Canadians more transportation options, supporting the shift to cleaner vehicles and helping build a stronger, more competitive Canada. Projects like the Huntsville station demonstrate the importance of collaboration between governments and businesses in building out clean energy projects to power the net-zero economy of the future.

– The Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature

It is the partnership’s second charging location, following the opening in 2025 four Level 2 charging ports at The Pines, one of the District’s long-term care homes, at 98 Pine Street in Bracebridge.
