The Sydenham Bruce Trail Club (SBTC) will host a family-friendly tree planting event on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Bruce Trail Conservancy’s (BTC) Rockview Bluffs Nature Reserve in Georgian Bluffs.
Participants will plant native tree and shrub saplings to transform an abandoned field into healthy habitat for birds, animals, and pollinators. Suitable for all ages, the event is appropriate for new and experienced gardeners alike. SBTC Biodiversity Team volunteers will be on hand to provide information and support.
“Events like the upcoming tree planting at Rockview Bluffs Nature Reserve are a great way for the public to make a tangible connection with nature in their communities,” says Chief Executive Officer of the Bruce Trail Conservancy Michael McDonald. “We are sincerely grateful to the volunteers of our Sydenham Bruce Trail Club and members of the public for the ways they care for our ribbon of wilderness and support recreation in communities across the region. Their time and effort will have an impact that will last for generations.”
The planting takes place in a grassy field, so participants are encouraged to wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear and clothing they don’t mind getting dirty, including long pants that can be tucked into socks. Those who have gardening gloves and tools should bring them. Additional tools will be available.
Registration is required. To register for this event, please email the Biodiversity Team Coordinator at sbtcbiodiversity@gmail.com and note how many people will be attending. Further instructions and directions will be sent to all registrants by email.
