Voters in Severn Township will elect a mayor, deputy mayor and four ward councillors in the October 26 municipal election.
Ward 5 councillor Jason Stanton has been acclaimed.
Mayor
Mike Burkett is the incumbent mayor and is seeking a fifth term. His priorities include addressing the future of Severn’s lands, climate change, protecting lakes, rivers and farmland, and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Jane Dunlop is a longtime Severn resident and former councillor who is returning to municipal politics after previously running for deputy mayor in 2022.
Danielle Falardeau is a Coldwater-area resident and farm owner with more than 30 years of corporate experience in areas including finance, human resources and government relations.
Deputy Mayor
Suzanne Burtenshaw, also known as Suzy, is a longtime Coldwater resident and community organizer who co-founded the Coldwater Steampunk Festival.
Dan Janssen is the current Ward 2 councillor and is seeking the deputy mayor’s position. He has more than 25 years of experience in aviation, labour relations and workplace safety.
Wanda Minnings is the current Ward 4 councillor and is running for deputy mayor. She has emphasized infrastructure, short-term rentals, communication with residents and collaborative decision-making.

Jim Gleadall is a semi-retired heavy-equipment operator with longstanding family roots in Severn. He has identified infrastructure , fair tax allocation and preserving agricultural and environmental lands among his priorities.
Keith Prentice is an architectural designer and construction-industry business owner. He serves on the township’s Economic Development Advisory Committee.
Jill Silk is a longtime Severn resident and government and finance professional. Her campaign priorities include infrastructure and road maintenance, environmental protection, emergency preparedness and greater transparency.
Ward 2
Colin Bidmead is a Coldwater entrepreneur and heritage-preservation advocate. His priorities include roads, snow removal, traffic calming, trails and parks, and supporting local farmers.
Mark Missen is a Coldwater business and community volunteer who has served with the Coldwater BIA and on the Township’s Economic Development Advisory Committee. He has also been involved in local planning and infrastructure discussions.

Geraldine Taylor-Cook has roots in rural Severn and a background in business administration. Her campaign is focused on responsible governance, research, collaboration and balanced representation.
Ward 3
Phil Brennan is the incumbent Ward 3 councillor. With a background in forestry and environmental policy, Brennan has emphasized economic development, environmental stewardship, and health-care recruitment.

Michael Kelly is a Master Electrician and small-business owner who moved to the Severn area in 2012. His campaign focuses on infrastructure, municipal budgeting, community safety, and youth opportunities in the trades.
