The Town of Collingwood is warning residents and visitors of a fraudulent QR code being placed over the legitimate one for paid parking at Sunset Point.
When scanned, the QR code directed the user to an unauthorized website and prompted them to enter personal and payment information. Other municipalities have experienced this type of fraudulent, unauthorized QR code scam.
By-law staff will continue to routinely inspect QR codes on Town parking signs to ensure they work as intended and haven’t been tampered with.
