The Town of South Bruce Peninsula says it has recently issued permits for more high-speed internet infrastructure around the municipality.
They say permits have been issued for fibre-optic internet lines in Berford Lake, Former Amabel Township (South), Howdenvale, Mallory Beach, Oliphant, Purple Valley, Red Bay, Sauble Beach and Wiarton.
The Town says the programs are being delivered through Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT), the Universal Broadband Fund, and the Accelerated High Speed Internet Program.
They note 157,000 homes and businesses in Ontario have been connected to high-speed internet since the launch of SWIFT in 2021.
South Bruce Peninsula says, “While the Town issues the required work permits, the installation work and timing are managed by the applicable program authority, internet service provider, and the contracted installation company.”
SWIFT explains on its website it’s a non-profit municipally led project to improve internet connectivity in underserved communities and rural areas across Southwestern Ontario.
