Saugeen Shores police charged a man with public intoxication after he allegedly called them over the long weekend.
They’re issuing a reminder saying, “When you can’t get a taxi home, calling 911 multiple times is not appropriate.”
They say police took multiple 911 calls from a 23-year-old who became stranded in Saugeen Shores after he failed to plan for a ride home after a night of drinking.
Police say they attended and spoke with the individual who did not have any plan in place to get back to his residence outside of Saugeen Shores.
They say officers attempted to assist him in locating a friend in town with negative results.
He was arrested for public intoxication and spent the night at the police station, then was released from custody when sober and issued a ticket.
Saugeen Shores police say failing to plan a ride home does not constitute an emergency.
They say, “Please call our non-emergency line at 519-832-2500 for assistance instead.”
