Brockton council is looking into a request to lower the speed limit on a road just outside central Walkerton.
Council passed a motion during its meeting Tuesday to have staff prepare a report on traffic and speed limits along Sideroad 15 Brant.
A letter signed by resident Corbin Hunt “on behalf of concerned residents and business owners” urged council to consider extending a posted 50 kilometre an hour zone from Bruce Road 4 (Durham Street E), further south along Sideroad 15 to Concession 2 SDR.
Currently, just over a kilometre south of Bruce Road 4 is a 50 km/h zone on Sideroad 15, and then it increases to 80 km/h.
“In recent years, we have been impacted by a significant increase in traffic volume, including increased heavy truck traffic and vehicles travelling at speeds that appear inconsistent with the posted limit through our residential area,” the letter to council says. “Because the function of this road has changed significantly, it is necessary to ensure traffic management and speed limits reflect present-day conditions and concerns about pedestrian and residential roadway safety.”
A motion from Coun. Steve Travale to have staff report back with more information was passed.
“I’m happy to look into this in principle,” Travale says. “I think we should get some more data.”
