The barn at the entrance of Geddes Park in Kincardine will be removed next week.
An advisory from the municipality says demolition is scheduled for Aug. 31 to Sept. 4. The barn is vacant; its most recent use was for storage by community and labyrinth garden user groups.
The barn was identified as structurally deficient through an assessment by a structural engineer. Cracking was found in the foundation walls, and remediation was not recommended due to the severity of the deficiencies and associated costs. The municipality is proceeding with the removal for the safety of park users and the public.
The Geddes Park parking lot will be closed during demolition. A section of the Red Trail will also be closed, though the labyrinth will remain accessible via the Red Trail, but not through the barn entrance or closed areas.
The remainder of Geddes Park will remain accessible. For safety, the public is asked to avoid the demolition area while work is underway.
Heritage Kincardine is documenting the structure’s history, with a heritage plaque anticipated to be installed in the spring of 2027 to commemorate it.
