A longtime broadcaster and avid sportsman has passed away.
Oxenden resident Stu Paterson died yesterday at Brightshores Owen Sound at the age of 81.
Paterson was undergoing treatment for mesothelioma, which is a type of lung cancer that is typically caused by exposure to asbestos.
He had built a career in broadcasting, starting in Smith’s Falls, then moving to CKWS in Kingston, CJRN in Niagara Falls, and then CBC News.
An avid fisherman, Paterson was a member of the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters, as well as the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association.
In tributes posted by friends and colleagues, Paterson is remembered as being quick-witted, opinionated, and passionate.
In the days prior to his passing, Paterson had even called into The Open Line on CFOS to give compliments to the medical professionals treating his illness.
