A community hub project in Chatsworth won’t be moving forward, again.
Township council decided earlier this month to rescind a previous motion, withdrawing their support for an $8.6-million community centre project.
Back in January, Chatsworth council supported the construction of a community centre with an outdoor daycare area at the property long selected as the site for a community hub — just past the Highway 6/10 split.
But council reconsidered after the community hub building committee advised council the project was excessive for what the community needs.
Residents also voiced concerns about the cost, which they worried would raise taxes and take funds away from other necessities like roads and bridges.
This isn’t the first time a multi-use community hub proposal in Chatsworth has failed to get off the ground in recent years.
In 2025, township council voted to abandon the project after reviewing $10.9-million and $13.1-million design plans for a new community hall with various amenities.
And back in 2020, an estimated $15-million proposal that would have included a new ice rink failed to secure federal grant funding, halting the project indefinitely.
While the community hub building proposal has stalled, a plan to spend about $1.9-million to landscape the property is going ahead.
