Bruce County council has voted to adopt a new official plan that has been in the works nearly a decade.
On Thursday, an amended draft for a new official plan was presented to council, after staff was directed to make some final amendments last month.
The initial planning stages for the new plan began in 2018 with the Plan The Bruce Project, which has developed over the years into the existing official plan.
Over that time, Bruce County has held engagement events with the public, community and business agencies, and with Indigenous communities.
During the June 18th meeting of council, a public hearing was held for additional input from members of the public.
“There are no other included or recommended changes to the draft plan since the public meeting on June 18th,” said Jack Van Dorp, Director of Planning and Development, assuring council that the plan was ready for submission. “The proposed official plan is generally consistent with the Provincial Planning Statement (2024), and does not conflict with any applicable provincial plans.”
Adjustments have also been made over the years in order to meet the requirements set forth by the provincial government.
Following adoption of the New Official Plan for Bruce County, the Plan will be provided to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for final approval.
The Ministry may modify the plan as part of its approval process.
