A counterfeit money investigation in West Grey led to drug and weapons charges against a Shelburne man.
West Grey Police say they were called yesterday to a report of someone trying to use counterfeit currency at a local business in the municipality. Police did not disclose which business they attended.
Police officers attended and located a male suspect while he was attempting to start a motorcycle.
“During the investigation, police confirmed the individual’s identity and determined that he was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle under the Criminal Code of Canada,” West Grey Police say in a release. “The individual was arrested for uttering counterfeit currency and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited. Following the arrest, officers conducted a search incident to arrest and seized a black crossbody bag belonging to the accused.”
West Grey Police say they seized an imitation BB handgun, counterfeit $50 bills and illegal narcotics in their search of the bag belonging to the accused.
Police say they also discovered the motorcycle the man was driving had been previously reported stolen.
The Shelburne man faces numerous charges as a result, including possession of counterfeit money, carrying a concealed weapon and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused was held in custody and transported to the West Grey Police Service where he was later scheduled to appear for a bail hearing.
“As the matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released at this time,” West Grey Police say.
