The Owen Sound North Stars Legacy Ridge Golf Club Junior Elite Women’s League (JEWL) lacrosse team fell 18-6 to the Oakville Lady Hawks on Thursday in their second game of playoff pool play.
Owen Sound opened with energy and stayed within striking distance through the first quarter, trailing just 3-2 after 15 minutes. From this point forward, it was all Lady Hawks, as they seized complete control of the game. Oakville dominated the draw circle, resulting in few offensive possessions for the North Stars, and repeatedly turned these possessions into goals. The Lady Hawks capitalized on a depleted Owen Sound roster to find the back of the net, then won the ensuing draw, leaving Owen Sound to chase the game in the final three quarters.
Bree Wilkins, Avery Seaman, and Scarlett Stevenson provided the Owen Sound offence scoring a pair of goals each.
The loss eliminates Owen Sound from championship bracket contention. The North Stars will close out pool play on Tuesday against the Orillia Lady Kings before heading to Kitchener-Waterloo for the consolation round of the provincial tournament on Friday and Saturday.
