The Ontario government is providing hospital organizations in Bruce and Grey counties with $10.2-million in additional funding.
A joint statement sent by Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, both members of the Progressive Conservative party, says Brightshores Health System will receive an additional $7.2-million in funding in 2026-27, while South Bruce Grey Health Centre will get $2.1-million and Hanover and District Hospital $850,000.
The dollar amounts represent a 3.4 per cent increase in funding for Brightshores Health System — the region’s largest hospital network with sites in Owen Sound, Wiarton, Meaford, Southampton, Markdale and Lion’s Head — while the South Bruce Grey Health Centre (which has hospital sites in Chesley, Durham, Kincardine and Walkerton) and Hanover and District Hospital allocations are four per cent annual increases.
The joint news releases from the region’s MPPs says the funding will support operations of the three hospital organizations.
“This includes funding to help keep their emergency department open, support inflationary or other wage pressures, and reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures, including MRI, CT, cardiac, stroke, neuroservices, orthopedics and cataracts, so that people can connect to care faster,” the statement from Vickers and Thompson says.
The funding increases for the hospital networks in Grey Bruce are part of the Ontario government’s $1.1-billion hospital sector investment as part of its 2026 budget, a statement from the province says.
