Get to know some local first responders this weekend.
Saugeen Municipal Airport will host first responders day June 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Participating this year are firefighters from Hanover, West Grey, Elmwood and Walkerton, who will showcase the equipment and vehicles they use to fight and prevent fires. Police officers from the OPP, Hanover and West Grey police services will be on-site with their cruisers. Paramedics from both Grey and Bruce county paramedic services will bring their ambulances, and first aid responders from St. John Ambulance will also attend.
Ornge, the provincial air ambulance and medical transport service, plans to bring a helicopter, provided it is not called away on an emergency. Organizers also hope to see Bruce Power’s emergency response team, which is equipped to handle all types of incidents, including a nuclear emergency. A Hydro One helicopter – an important tool used to maintain the electricity grid across Ontario – is also scheduled to fly in.
The Landing Gear Diner restaurant in the airport terminal building will be open during the event, which gives the public a chance to learn about the vital work these first responders do.
